A better diagnosis?

IMHO, that idea is not likely nor have I ever seen it and I work on them daily. It's far more likely that you have cracked upper strut mount bushings and/or worn anti-sway bar links. When turning and if the wheels are turned to stops, the stops will also make noise if dry, not greased (done at service intervals).
There'd be no reason why seated springs under ALOT of tension (in bottomed out positions) could ever move. I have yet to see that happen on any car.
