Vibration Blues V70-XC70

Hi folks,

I recently purchased a pre-owned 1999, V-70 Wagon with almost 79,000 miles …I know, and it’s not even broken in yet!!! Anyway, I had it check-out by a Volvo mechanic who told me that the wagon was in perfect working order, but the tires were terribly worn (steel showing) and in fact the rear tire had a bubble which was causing a slight vibration when approaching a stop (around 2 to 4 miles an hour).

I purchased the car and took it down to the tire shop and had new rubber mounted on all four corners. However, the slight vibration still occurs. I inspected the engine myself and found that the top-front engine mount has a hairline crack near the very top of the mount (through and through).

I have two questions:

1) Could the cracked front top engine mount be causing the slight vibration?

2) Given, I’m somewhat handy with a wrench is replacing the top front engine mount a straight forward job or is it a pain in the #%&? Should I let a pro make the repair? I found a nylon mount online for $28. God only knows how much a mechanic would charge for the job!!!

Thank you in advance for your input.
