To buy another Volvo?

I would appreciate the opinions of some S80 owners and mechanics. I own a 1991 740 (my third Volvo). It is in fine working order, but I am giving thought to buying a new S80. I haven't driven a S80 yet nor researched it. While I have enjoyed tinkering with my 740's mechanical problems from time to time, I would really like to buy a more reliable car. My wife drives a Toyota Camry-her second one. There has never ever been a single problem with either Camry, and that's after driving them both over 100,000 miles. The same with a friend's Lexus. In contrast, when you buy a Volvo, it's like you buy into a lifelong "hobby" of dealing with many minor (and some major) repairs. You also get to meet a lot of nice people through web sites like this. But the thought of never ever having to fix or repair anything is appealing to me. Should I leave the Volvo family and move to Toyota? Compared to my two 740s and my one 240, do the S80's have a lot of nuisance and major problems and at the same frequency as my 740, or are they a car that you can drive 100,000 or more miles without any inconveniencing problems. Has Volvo done any better at perfecting their cars? If yes, would you recommend a S80 to your mother or your best friend? Why or why not?

Thanks for any and all advise.

Allan
