Noisy Valve Lifters will oil cure? 850

It seems my valve lifters are tapping slightly when the motor is cold. Lasts, up to 10 mins. In winter this might get worse as the temperature is a lot cooler maybe the oil can't flow properly.

My mechanic said, put some flush in the motor with the oil and rev it up to 5 or 6000rpm for a few seconds to 'clean' it out. Then drain and refil with fresh oil. He says this is what they do at the shop. He said it is probably clogged up as no one has ever really 'driven' the car.

Will a flush and synthetic oil cure or ease this? Has anyone had this malady?

The car has 117,000 miles and is a 93 850 GLT 2.0lt 20v.
Thanks again.
Matt
