Does 1996 850R have R12 or R134a AC refrigerant? 850 1996

Hi,

a couple questions for you before
I install my ultrawhite 9006 low beams :)

I noticed today that my 96 850R doesn't exactly
have the coldest air conditioning. I want to fix that.
First off, does the 1996 850R have the old R12 or the new R134a
refrigerant? if it is the old type, how much does it generally cost
to convert it, and should I absolutely go (or not go?) to the volvo
dealership for this type of conversion?
Anything else i may want to know, please tell me,
as I know very little about HVAC systems (and if I knew
anything at all, it would pertain to my old BMW...)

thanks!

-tim 850R
