Wipers Died on the way home from THE DEAD show. 850 1993

Need help...
Wipers died last night on the way home from THE DEAD show in Mansfield MA.
I stopped and checked the fuse and it looked good...but I changed it because I had a spare with me. Wipers still did not work. They just quit in the middle of the normal slow speed cycle. I had to drive 50 miles with the window down
it torrential rain to make it home!!! Now I could use some help to diagnose the
problem.
