Trouble Shifting into Park '98 V70 XC - Lockout Problem ?? 1998

Wife leaves phone message - "I can't shift into park (or remove key) without pulling up on parking brake first"

I have read some posts that refer to the solenoid microswitch but wasn't sure if this is what I need to replace or if it could be something else.

In the past I have noticed a tightness on some occasions when shifting out of park which cause me to wonder if this is related to a shifter adjustment issue.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. DIY Replacement info would also be helpful. Peter
