the flashing lights mean there is a internal fault with the auto climae control.
does it work in manual mode?

to see if you are low on freon, you can jump the low pressure switch wirring harness with a piece of wire jumper

the switch is on the service port line on the pass side near the firewall, unplug the wire harness and jump the connection in the plug, if the compressor turns on, you are low or out of freon.
