12 month warranty on Dealer auto-trans/ transferrable? 850 1995

Just wondering if anyone knows if the 12 month warranty that normally comes with a Volvo re-built trans is still good if the dealer doesn't do the install?
I have someone who can drop my old trans and install the new one for about half what the dealer will charge. ($900 vs. $500)
