2003 S40 Engine sound question S40-V40

Hi All!

My 2003 S40 has about 2,600 miles on it. Today I drove without the stereo and noticed a peculiar sound. Has anyone else experienced it? I would like to avoid a trip to the dealer if it's normal. The sound: when accelerating at light-part throttle, there is a "whoosh" sound coming from the engine. When I let off the throttle, there is a sound similar to a blowoff valve (a popping, grunting sound).

Thanks for your ideas.
