96 855 Trans Fluid 850 1996

The fluid in my trans (auto) in my 855 is a brownish color. Car has 102K and has never had the fluid changed to my knowledge (or to the veh's VERY complete records check - seems customer followed the dealer's service recommendations).

I have a slight stick in 1-2 shifting when the vehicle initially gets going. After that it shifts through the full range just fine. I'm wondering:

Should I flush the fluid? Dealers say no, supposed volvo experts say it can't hurt (dealers say it can cause slippage - which I still feel's BS).

Am I better off just saving my $$ for a new tranny??

Thanks
