96 855 Trans Fluid 850 1996

I agree with Ken-I think his explanation is spot on. After purchasing my 97 855 T5 with 87000 miles a month ago, I requested the dealer do a flush while doing the rear main seal. 23 miles later, the tranny started slipping, clunking, and finally crapped out. I did not have a complete vehicle maintenance history, but I suspect the ATF was never changed. So $2250 later (got a "break" from the dealer since they just got $700 for the rear main job) we have a new tranny and a lighter wallet-but a fun car. Ken said it brilliantly-the flush did not cause the failure, it just revealed the problem. I hope the same does not happen to you. Best of luck, Adam
