Advice needed on ATF fill level 850 1993

Is the fill level for the auto trans like the engine oil in the sense that its best to fill it to the high end of the range or is it best to aim for the middle of the range? I know thats a litle fussy but I'm trying to get it right. I'm currently at the low end of the range when checking hot.

BTW, I flushed the ATF (previously standard ATF w/BG additive) with Mobil 1 synthetic last weekend and I can report the shifting action is only very slightly improved but the real gain seems to be in shifting consistency whether the car is hot or cold.

Thanks,
