Strut question S70 1998

Within the last year, my 1998 S70A began sounding like a tired out box spring mattress. Every bump, turn, anytime the suspension is responding, especially when I'm going at a slow speed, is heard with a creaking sound. My local Volvo mechanic said there was nothign he could do to correct the problem....is this true? Thanks for your response. Tom.
