1998 S70 - Bad year? S70

I bought my 98 S70 from my sister in law who babied the car. It had about 72K on it. In the very short tijme that I have had it, the rear main seal needed to be replaced, the air pump (X2), and the calipers and rotors. Except for the rear main seal, (and I had the timing belt done but that's just maintenance)I did the rest of the work myself and I just can't believe the price of the Volvo parts. The air pump alone is $334, the stupid check valve, which has to be replaced in tandem with the pump is $97. The check valve should be about $10!!Worst of all is the engineering design. Volvo must build these things believing that no one will ever have to work on them. I have done extensive work on my brother in laws SAAB, another scandanavian wonder! My other vehicles are 2 Acuras, a Mazda and a toyota truck, each have in excess of 130k on them and I would drive them across country in a heart beat. I' ll take Japanese any day. Not only are these Nordic cars unreliable, but the cost of parts alone is prohibitive. It borders on the ridiculous.
