Transmission fluid change 850 1994

I was getting ready to have my transmission fluid changed and had a few well wishers warn me against it because of the high miles on the car. They claimed the transmission would start to slip because it would be too clean then they told me it never needs to be changed. The last fluid change on the transmission was at 154,000 it now has 192,000. Can any one point me in the right direction here? Do I need to change it or not and is it true it may start to slip after the change?
