how about this mileage? 850 1993

Sounds like great mileage, but I have always been highly suspicious of single-tank mileage claims.

If I know I am going on a long trip, and have to fill up before getting on the highway, I typically cram as much fuel into the tank as possible, cause, I reason, by the time the fuel starts to expand, I will have burned off that extra. When I get back from my long trip, and I fill up, I typically only fill the tank 'till it clicks-off the first time, 'cause I know I am going home and just parking the car.

The difference between the two methods of filling could be a gallon, or more, making any mileage calculation, based upon single tank, meaningless.

I know, I know . . . I'm going to get responses that "I always fill my tank in the exact same way (I go to the exact same pump, use the exact same hose, only fill up when the barametric pressure is 29.98, etc., etc.), so I KNOW that I am getting an accurate mileage from my single tank methodology."

I don't believe it.

There is so much variability in when the gas pump clicks-off that, unless you are measuring over multiple tanks, single-tank mileage calculations are irrelevant.
