Oil leak, possible causes... 850 1996

I have a 96 850R wagon. There is an oil leak coming from somewhere on the backside of the engine (side closest to the firewall). Its running down the oilpan, and its all over the underside of the car from blowback. I jacked it up, and its not the oilpan gasket, nor is it from a turbo oil leak. I can't figure it out, since its hard to tell. Here are my questions..if its a rear main seal leak, that would be tranny fluid, right? Can it be the axle shaft seal? Are there any common leaks on this model and this age (135k miles)? The next move might be to get it up there and get a few shop towels and clean everything off, but before I get to that I figured I would ask. Also if its the axle shaft or rear main seal, how much would that run at a dealer or a non-dealer volvo specialist? Thanks!
