Starting trouble V70-XC70 1999

Car starts well when cold. No problems in winter even after long inactivity. In hot weather when engine is warm at start up it will often just rev briefly and then die. Sometimes it will do this several times and then run normally but sometimes I have to wait maybe a half hour until it cools down . What am I looking at here?
