AC compressor 850 1996

Interesting description. You don't say what year your car is, but if it is 1999 or newer, your theory is probably right. Read my post, five posts above this one "No A/C in hot weather - fixed". Wiring around the black box using only a diode did result in the compressor clutch failing after two days. However, 3.6 ohms of resistance is not going to reduce voltage very much, so I suspect it was a coincidence.

I just noticed you mentioned that you bypassed the overtemperature switch. If you have a compressor with an overtemperature switch (1998 and older), then, according to the wiring diagram, the black box IS a diode.

At any rate, if you have adequate voltage going to your A/C clutch and the clutch is not engaging, your clutch is failing.
