98 S70 ABS light S70 1998

The ABS system on my 98 S70 indicates a failure most of the time (via the dash light).I also experience the ABS system engaging periodically when stopping at a slow speed. The failure light will illuminate most of the time as soon as I turn on the ignition. After driving for some time it may clear. I have heard that this is a symptom of a bad ABS controller. Are there any of you out there that have been through this? Has anyone purchased one of these controllers over the internet cheaper than the dealer's cost? Are there any downloads available explaining the replacement of the unit?
