Yes, over-engineering from Volvo. The parts guy was right as you wanted an OEM harness connector BUT for less than $20 at ANY local parts store, an aftermarket universal trailer wiring convertor does the job. I've got one in my 745T as well (9 yrs so far, no problems). You can either use the scotchlocks (which really aren't THAT bad in a dry, non-corrosive area like inside the trunk) or solder the wires if that makes you happier.
$200 vs $20? = same results. Hmmmmm?
