Eating light bulbs V70-XC70 2001

On the way home this morning, the damn light out message came on. Again. This time it is a brake light, and not one of the ones that you can reach unless you are Plastic Man. Of course. What's with this light bulb thing anyway? Seems that I'm inside the rear corners every month or so changing one or the other of them. Usually one of the "position lights", a decent contortion in itself, but I've become adept, and can change one in less than an hour and only lost about a cup of blood the last time. Is this just my problem? Is there some sort of modification like the one for the front lights? Will I have to buy stock in Sylvannia? Is there some brand of small bulb that lasts forever? One of life's small annoyances.
