Could be true. Some of Volvos bulbs are a different wattage as similar looking bulbs as well.
If you want to go aftermarket, just be sure that they're all the same (both sides being equal), wattages are the same as OEM and that they're all replaced at the same time as all bulbs have a lifespan. Volvos excuse is that "someone raised the alt output and didn't tell anyone" BUT.....yeah, sure.
On other cars, one can run higher output alternators and not be blowing bulbs.
