Broken weld on drivers door hinge V70-XC70 1998

The drivers door hinge on my wife's '98 V70 just started making an unpleasant creaking sound whenever the door is opened. I had my mechanic look at it and it seems a weld at the door hinge weakened and is now loose. He had me talk to a local body shop who said he's seen this before. He needs to take the door off and reweld it.At least it's a small repair ($100). Anyone ever had this before?
