Broken weld on drivers door hinge V70-XC70 1998

If it's the old pop-pop problem it is a common problem with the 850. It's not the hinge that is broken but the monting bracket for the door "hold open strap". (Don't know the technical term for it) I would have thought Volvo would have fixed this obvious desigh flaw in the 70 series. I just fixed my step-daughter's 94 by drilling out the spot welds and installing bolts with large washers in taped holes. Simple fix. $100 isn't a bad deal. I have heard Volvo charges $200 - $300.
