2 strange things happened 850 1995

Ever since I have had this car(about 1 year now, I get a strange grinding sound, like the antenna going down or something else gear driven, lasting about 5 seconds, about 30 seconds after I start to drive away.
Also, for the 1st time, after fiddling with the winter , econo and sport buttons while driving,(dumb) I wasn't able to get going in drive after stopping by my mail box. Felt like it was in neutral, but with a little foward motion. Ideas?
