Passenger lock sticking

First of all, what kind or car is it? Perhaps wthat would be a good start.

Second, when you say it is sticking, maybe you have bubble gum the lock. Maybe there is a person holding the latch open. Did you check?

You see, I really don't know because you didn't give us enough information. For example, my 1998 V70 doesn't have a key on the passenger side, which makes troubleshooting different than for my 1990 740. (Even when you say you tried the key, I still don't if you mean on the driver's door or the passenger door.)

So, with about a hundred assumptions, I guess you have a x40,x60,x70, or x80 and that you are talking about the driver's side door key when you say key. When you manually try to push the passenger lock down, does it only go down all the way? If so, does it feel normal in terms of resistance when you are pushing it down? If you can push it down, does the security system engage?

Also, does the door latch and unlatch normally or is there binding when the lock is up. What about when the lock is partially down? Have you inspected the door handle? Does it come out all of the way by itself?

If you can't push down the lock manually (using normal force), and the outside handle springs back to normal after trying to open the door, there might be some sort of binding in the power lock actuator. To investigate further, you will
need to pull off the door panel and the little white plastic over the power lock actuator. Bay13 over at www.volvospeed.com has some good instructions under the repair section to take off you door panel.
