Clunk/rumble from front left, mechanic thinks it's tranny related... 850 1993

I just brought my '93 850 in to my local indy shop to replace an engine mount or two, and mentioned a loud rumbling noise that is usually accompanied by a clunking feeling in the driver's floorboard. The car has 114k and is an automatic, has anyone had any experience with this before? Briefly the tranny fault light was on giving me a 2-2-2 code, fault in solenoid S2 circuit, but before I could look into fixing it, it went away. Any advice/past experience would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-Sean
