S80 T6 Trans problems S80 1999

I picked it up from the Volvo dealer to take it to an indpendent trans rebuild shop. Volvo wanted to charge me $89 to tell me that I needed a $3700 transmission. After losing my temper with them, they dropped it to $45. I then took it to the independent shop, they quoted me under $2000 to fix it. I trust them as they are well known in town and have a good reputation. It is in the shop now and I should get it back sometime this week. At least the $$ are going to feed his family and not Volvo's! Then it's over to Honda or Toyota for a dependable car.
