Under engine cover

Some models have them, some don't and that changes by the year. Volvo seemingly can't make up their minds on whether or not to use them.
They don't really do anything even when they are installed so I wouldn't worry about it. They don't keep the engine, trans cleaner nor will the plastic help if you bottom out on rocks or cement as the oil pan will still crack if that ever happens.
