smell of oil strong 850

I get a strong smell of oil, especially after driving for a while. When I open the hood I smell it even stronger, but there is no smoking or evidence of burning oil....and no oil stains after overnight parking. The oil level was down a bit, but it sometimes is (engine has 180K miles)..otherwise, it runs fine...flame trap was also cleaned a couple of thousand miles ago. I thought I read there was some other oil collection gizmo which could require renewal - anyone have experience with this?
