In addition, I usually remove any parts of the battery box that I can and wash those and the box and surrounding area with baking soda as well. I use the box of baking soda that has been sitting in the refrigerator.

Nearby metal parts get a quick spray with black paint.

I then top off the battery and give it a charge with a battery charger, being careful not to overcharge. (I do this overnight while the paint dries.)

I usually clean the posts and cable clamps with emery cloth, and add anti-corrosion rings

This routine is done in the fall.
