Right Balljoint 'Some Play' 850 1994

I just had new front pads replaced on my 125,000 mile 1994 850 and the indy said my right front balljoint had someplay in it. He didn't act like this was any emergency and could wait a while ( estimated cost $244). About 10,000 mile ago I had the right front sway bar (whatever that is) replace, because they heard a rattle (I never noticed it). My tires are wearing evenly and I don't notice anything unusual in driving. What determines when you should get these balljoints replace. How many more miles do I have 5, 10 or 20 thousand more? I'd like to space out these repairs and not do something until it really needs it or becomes dangerous. Any thoughts hear?
