850 transmission electrical problems 850 1994

I have just bought a 1994 850 automatic non-turbo sedan. The first day I had the car, the hazard transmission arrow on the dash started to blink! I brought
the car to my friendly Volvo dealer and they said code #232, bad speed sensor.
I replaced the speed sensor and that fixed the problem for 10 miles. I brought
the car back and the now the hazard light was back on and the tach was working
intermitently. Now they say the tack is bad and that is causing the problem.
I have logged over 1 millon miles on Volvo's and NEVER had a Tach problem. Has anyone ever seen this happen, I am finding this hard to beleive!
