V40 2003 paint clear coat damage S40-V40

My 2003 V40 with about 6000 miles on it is showing damage to the paint "clear coat". The damage looks like small spots of crinkled material. Has anybody had any experience with this? The dealer claims this is damage resulting from bird waste. I am not convinced that so much damage could be done in such a short time without some other contributing factor.

Thanks for your responses.
