Door latch problem S70 1998

Damndest thing...the rear passenger door latch is "engaged", i.e. in the locked position but the door is open. Can't shut it, can't unlock it. Any ideas? I did see the thread about the REPL but I don't think this is that complicated; i don't think anything's broke.

One thought i had is that when unlocking, maybe the system ignores the latch if the door is open, so maybe i can trick the car into thinking the door is closed. Anyone know where the door open/closed detector is and how to set it?
