AWD vs. XC V70-XC70 1998

One difference that you may not of thought of is the ride height. The XC has tall springs to give it more ground clearance and suspension height for off road use. There is ALWAYS a trade off for every performance tweak. The XC will not handle as well as the V70 AWD on pavement. The V70 AWD will handle better during high speed turns on the highway. When it comes to the XC you have to ask yourself how many times will it be off-road.
