Better of the two evil and shortcomings 850 1995

I like to emphasize that I had clunky shift after removing the filter since I had a 2” of 3/8” hose and 3 3/8” splices. It was enough to keep the flow restricted. So even after I removed the filter and added spices it did not change clunky shift until I replaced the entire hose.

Filter is good because when I replaced the old hose, I noticed few metal shavings with the fluid. However, I had to choose better of the two evils and am considering fluid change every 7k miles.

I will not discourage experimentation but one needs to be observant between before and after subtle changes. However, in my case I am not sure if I would add this stacked plate 3/8” hose barb radiator I bought, too much hassle. I may eBay it.

Transmission fluid change interval will differ from one 850 to another. No matter how identical the transmissions are no mechanics are identical. It is like the uniqueness of a muzzle of a gun. One needs to set up his/her own change interval for an 850. Other wise we would have experience exact same problems with 850s.

I am surprised that the transmission system was designed with such a short-term view. Due to heat the shift gets choppy, so they definitely needed a bigger radiator for the transmission fluid. Metal shavings tell me that a filtration mechanism was needed. Unfortunately one just has to live with the shortcomings.
