Wanna switch to synthetic.... 850

Can someone please help me with a change to synthetic lubricants.

My '95 850T Wagon has always been serviced with Castrol GTX Motor oil and Castrol tranny fluid. It's never burned any oil and I assume that the Castrol has been good to the engine and transmission. It just turned 116,000 miles and still runs very strong. I hope to keep the car until it falls completly apart and will probably be moving to a colder climate this Winter. Will switching to synthetics at this point help prolong the life of the powertrain?

I know that Castrol makes a semi-synthetic and a full synthetic. Most brickers seem to use Mobil 1 or Amsoil. Is there much difference with these brands. If the engine gets synthetic, should the tranny get the same synth. treatment? Do special oil filters have to be used or can I still use the Mann or Volvo OEM filters?

Thanks for the advise.
