New Keyless Entry Problem 850 1995

Okay, I have the honking horn situation resolved. I've now tried reprogramming the two keyless remotes (the one that came with the car and the one that I just got on eBay). Both remotes look alike except my old one has oval buttons and the new one has cartouche-shaped buttons, BUT the numbers on the back of the case are exactly the same. I assume they both should work if they're the same model, right?

I've tried reprogramming several times and the new one isn't working. I switched the batteries and both batteries are fine. What's my next step? I followed the directions for reprogramming as follows:

Switch the ignition off and on (#2 position) five times, leaving on the last time. Within 30 seconds push one of the buttons, then within 10 seconds push the other button. I've used both the "lock" and "unlock" buttons with no result. Is there a trick to how long the button should be depressed? Should I see a light or hear a sound somewhere? Help.

One last thing: I checked the contacts and they are not corroded.
