Service message on 2002 XC V70-XC70 2002

I have tried unsuccessfully with the instructions given here to reset the little "time for regular service" message that appears on my dashboard. The last time the dealer reset this message he said that on the 2002 XC it must be reset by a dealer because it required some type of equipment that a consumer would not have. Of course I know they will tell you anything to make a $. But if somebody out there knows if it can be reset without the dealers involvment, I would really appreciate it if they would post the instructions. I have tried two different sets of instructions from Brickboard but neither one worked. This is service message, not a service light. Thanks in advance for all input! Nautic Blue 2002 XC with 19500 miles
