Auto Tranny acting up at times. 850 1995

I purchased a 94 wagon in April for 3k with 129k miles on it. Everything works well. One thing I have noticed: Ocassionaly when coming off the highway after at least 20 miles of highway speeds, the tranny seems to momentarily be in third and then shift back to first after a few feet. It seems to do this when I can feel the downshift is a little harder than normal. Any advise would be
greatly appreciated.
