charging system 850

The 4 year old battery on my 1994 850 T began emmitting puffs of smoke, and odor, and leaking as I drove it. Just the day before, both high beam headlamps blew out and the ABS and TRACS dash lights are staying on. The dealer said they checked the charging system and everything was fine. They installed a new battery and sent me on my way. Two days later - same problem with new battery. Any suggestions?
