850t5 turbo lag 850 1995

Hi, I recently acquired a '95 t5 wagon (5speed). The turbo was shot, rebuilt by aftermarket specialist. When changing up through the gears the engine tends to continue accelerating even though the accelerator is released. Not having previous experience with the car don't know if this normal or not. There is no dealer within 200K's from me and mine is the only 850t5 in town!
Any advise will be appreciated!
