Door Check Strap V70-XC70

Greetings;

I'm curious if anyone has shared this symtom. On my 98 XC wagon, when opening the drivers side door there is a distinctive metalic clicking sound. From experience with my other car, this is usually an indication of the spot welds (body side of check strap) on the door check strap freeing themselves. Conventional wisdom is the check strap has a few ridges that keep the door from freely opening to its limit, but over time the constant friction of the check strap "ridge" on this mechanism weakens the spot welds on the body side of the strap.
Appreciate your response if you have encountered this problem and the details of your fix.

Thanks,

Jeff N.
