reving high on start 850 1996

It cant be good for the motor to hit 5000 plus rpm's on startup. I need to fix this. The dealer has no idea what it is. My wife is stressing wanting to get rid of the car. I like the car and want to figure out whats going on. It doesnt seem like it would be the ECT because we never have hot start problems. I asked my wife again and she said it only does this starting cold.

The great contributors to this forum helped me keep my old 740 t5 running smoothly and helped me save money fixing things myself. I really apreciate any help I get this time around.
