Code P1171 Means A Bad MAF Sensor....

To All,

If your CEL comes and goes and usually goes out a short time after you get gas. Right!

It's the MAF. See if you get a P1171 on a generic code reader like an Equus 3100 even though it says Rotor Sensor. I bet the MAF's life span is about 4 to 6 years.

You can mail ordered it for about $162. plus shipping.

Steps are easy :

1- Disconnect MAF connector.
2- Unscrew two torx screws which connect MAF tube to the airbox.
3- Remove O-clamp and disconnect MAF tube from tube which goes down to engine.
4- Install new MAF tube reversing steps.

Note : Disconnecting MAF tube to the engine tube is a PITA. Take a hot air gun or blow dryer to heat up union of the two and pry apart by hand. If you still can't do it get a plastic screwdriver or the like and start prying between the two very delicatly so not the break or distort the engine tube. You will see what I mean once you start.

Dealer said not necessary to disconnect the battery. They said it's not worth the risk of sparking or shorting another component. But use you own judgement.
