Wheel Noise 850 1995

My 89 Escort with 189k miles had the same noise a while ago. It happened when the car was moving and the sound increased with the speed and turning to the right. I jacked up the front of the car and put the tranny in N in order to turn the front wheels by hand. The driver side turned freely without any sound but the passenger side turned sort of freely with scraping sound. Since both outer CV boots were fine (no cracks or leaking grease), I suspected that it was the wheel bearing. I took my car to local garage and replaced the passenger side wheel bearing, the scraping sound went away.

What is the mileage of your S80 ? For 850, wheel bearing could go south after 100k miles. Mine 855 is still OK with 110k miles.

It also could be your front wheel rubbing the wheel well, but no likely. Unless the sound is coming from both front wheels.
