Go for another Volvo if you want the satisfying feeling they give back to you 25 days a month, and if you can live with the concerns they give the other 5~6 days a month. My 850T was basicaly a great car with the classic symptoms of overengineering. Most times there was nothing significantly wrong with it, but the myriad of sensor feeding in to the OBD II always found something to set off the Lambda/Check Engine/MIL light. I believe the greek symbol Lambda is Swedish for "dealer revenue". Thank goodness for this forum and for the LED interface in the 94~96 models. Problems included the A/C of course, Knock sensors, ABS module, Shift lock switch, Evaporative emissions valve, heater blower motor, oil and vacuum leaks, etc, etc. The constant problems overcame my enjoyment in the car and I switched to Acura. IMO Volvo built their reputation on 240's and earlier cars, started heading down with such "winners" as the infamous 760 V-6's (even the Volvo dealers didn't want it back on trade), and continue accelerating downward with such as the S80's. The 850's are probably about as good as the FWD Volvo line gets in the past 20 years. Volvo used to advertise durability (...17 years in Sweden), now they pitch safety as their remaining strength. That's great but other cars are there too, and many of them do not require as much service attention.
I've had several Volvos in the past, but there are none in my future.
My $0.02 worth.
